Children Surgery Center

Nurse with childThe Children’s Surgery Center is a designated part of the Moffit-Long OR suite, consisting of a waiting room, a pre-operative unit, a post-anesthesia unit, and two operating room suites especially designed for children. Like our adult patients, children and their families come to the Center to receive the highly specialized care and procedures unavailable in their communities.

As with all of our Children’s Hospital, care in the Children Surgery Center is family centered. Center physicians and nurses are trained specifically in the care of children ranging in age from neonates to teens. Special efforts are made to keep these children as comfortable as possible and to anticipate their post-operative needs within a family-centered environment. This is accomplished by:

  • Discussing plans and goals for the surgery and hospital or home care after the surgery with the patient and the family.
  • Allowing children to have their parents, siblings, and other loved ones with them until they go into surgery as well as the recovery period directly after surgery.
