Perinatal/Pediatric Outreach Program
The Perinatal/Neonatal/Pediatric Outreach Program functions as a liaison/support service between the Perinatal/Neonatal/Pediatric in-house services at UCSF Children’s Hospital and nineteen referral hospitals in Northern California.
The program goal is to enhance the quality & continuity of care between community hospitals and UCSF for the care of high-risk mothers and newborns, and the pediatric population.
The Perinatal/Pediatric Outreach Program provides:
- 24 hour clinical consultation
- Physician clinical case conferences (M&M’s)
- Physician lecture series
- Continuing education classes for nurses, social workers & respiratory therapists
- Clinical preceptorships in perinatal and neonatal care
- Consultation for program development and physical plant enhancement
- Over 150 perinatal/neonatal/pediatric policies, procedures & protocols
- Additional resource information and materials, including newsletters, CBO’s, patient information booklets (in several languages) etc
Program services are provided under a formal contractual affiliation agreement in accordance with Title 22 and CCS requirements. Services are provided on site at the affiliated hospital, except for the clinical preceptorships, which are scheduled at UCSF.
Perinatal/pediatric Outreach staff assist hospitals with identifying educational needs and jointly develop an educational plan for physicians, nurses, social workers and respiratory therapists on an annual basis. Clinical case conferences are offered and conducted on a regular basis at each hospital providing clinicians with a review process and up-to-date clinical information that supports and enhances their clinical patient care. Physician lecture series are offered to provide formal didactic education. Nursing education programs are conducted in, 4 and 6 hour long didactic and /or simulation/workshop sessions to assist nurses in developing and enhancing clinical knowledge & skills.
