Please complete these courses prior to beginning clinical work. You do not need to submit a record of completion to your UCSF manager or preceptor unless requested. To locate the trainings, login to UC Learning Center with your UCSF Username and password. Search and self-register using the exact title as listed below in uppercase. Completed trainings will appear in your transcript.

Compliance Training
- required annually for all students and faculty in a direct patient care setting -
- INFECTION CONTROL TRAINING FOR PHYSICIANS, NURSES, AND LICENSED INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS (Clinical Staff) eCourse or TEST–OUT version if you have completed a previous version
- ANNUAL SAFETY TRAINING
- COVID-19 PREVENTION eCourse or COVID-19 PREVENTION (SUMMARY DOCUMENT) if you have completed a previous version
Foundational Training
- required once for all new students and faculty if not already completed -
- HIPAA 101 - PRIVACY AND SECURITY FOR NEW UCSF FACULTY, STAFF, TRAINEES, STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS
- GENERAL COMPLIANCE BRIEFING: UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA ETHICAL VALUES AND CONDUCT (required every 2 years)
- UC SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT PREVENTION TRAINING FOR NON-SUPERVISORY STAFF
- UC CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS FUNDAMENTALS
- UCSF FOUNDATIONS OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
Electronic Health Record Training (APeX)
- required every six months and for new users. Review course appropriate to your role and setting -
Pre-licensure Nursing Students (Inpatient Setting)
APeX Training Curriculum recommended for new APeX users
- INP: STUDENT NURSING
APeX Proficiency Exam required for all APeX users
- INP: SN 100-200 EXAM – REMOTE
Nurse Practitioner, Mid-Wife, and Physician Assistant Students
- INP: PROVIDER PRE-ASSESSMENT EXAM (required for UCSF Providers, Fellows & Residents, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants in an inpatient setting)
- AMB: AMBULATORY PROVIDER & ANCILLARY (required for Providers, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Scribes in an ambulatory setting)
- AMBULATORY PROVIDER PRE-ASSESSMENT EXAM (required for Providers, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants in an ambulatory setting)
- AMBULATORY PROVIDER POST-TRAINING EXAM (required for all Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Students, and Mid-Wife Students in the ambulatory setting)
Post-licensure, Graduate Nursing Students Not Providing Direct Patient Care
- APEX VIEW ONLY ACCESS (OUTPATIENT)
- APEX VIEW ONLY ACCESS (INPATIENT)
Health Clearance
Academic institution assures completion and maintains documentation of the following prior to beginning clinical work:
- Two initial vaccinations of HBV vaccination series, or signed a HBV declination statement
- Evidence of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (appropriate documentation of vaccination or positive titer for each)
- Evidence of annual Tuberculosis (TB) screening in the form of:
a. Two documented negative TB skin tests, one within 3 months and one within 1 year;
b. Negative interferon gamma release assay ( IGRA)
c. Negative chest x-ray taken within the previous year if the student is TB skin test or IGRA positive
- Documentation of Tdap vaccination
- Documentation of the current season’s influenza vaccination
- Documentation of completed COVID-19 Vaccination series and any booster doses as applicable
- No exemptions or deferrals are approved for non-employee students and clinical instructors
- For UCSF employees seeking an exemption or deferral, submit your request according to UC COVID-19 Vaccination Policy instructions

Additional Requirements
Academic institution assures completion and maintains documentation of the following prior to beginning clinical work:
- Current American Heart Association BLS For Health Care Providers Certification
- Criminal background check completed by a third party consumer reporting agency
- Professional liability insurance coverage shall be not less than $1M ($1,000,000)
