Magnet

UCSF Medical Center received its initial Magnet designation in 2012 and was honored to be redesignated in 2017 by the prestigious Magnet designation for excellence in nursing practices and quality patient care twice! Magnet designation is the highest accolade bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is nationally and internationally recognized as reflecting exemplary patient care and nursing engagement across an organization.

UCSF Medical Center is the first hospital in San Francisco, the fourth of the UC Medical Centers and one of only 46 hospitals in California to achieve Magnet designation! On a national level, there are only approximately 7% of hospitals who have received this honor.

Magnet hospitals demonstrate excellence in the Magnet Model components:

  • Transformational Leadership
  • Structural Empowerment
  • Exemplary Professional Practice
  • New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements
