Neurology Nurses' Unit Based Community of Involvement

Nurses on the Neurology / Neurosurgery and Neuro Transitional Care, also known as 8 Long and 8 South, work together to enhance their community and participate in various activities on a quarterly basis.

Not only do these nurses worked as a team to care for their patients at UCSF Medical Center, but they also join efforts to care for the greater community as well. During 2011, these nurses organized a teams of volunteers to participate in the following activities:

  1. 6th Annual Aneurysm and AVM Awareness Walk sponsored by The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation (TAAF) held on Sunday, May 1, 2011 in San Francisco, raising $1,632.

  2. 17th Annual Bay Area Brain Tumor Walk sponsored by the National Brain Tumor Society held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in San Francisco, raising $940.

  3. MedShare, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the environment and healthcare in developing countries where 8 Long / 8 South nurses donated their time, in the Fall of 2011, to collect surplus medical supplies and equipment for distribution to under served healthcare facilities in developing countries.

  4. Last holiday season, they worked with the Salvation Army to adopt seniors and provided requested items on the seniors' Wish Lists. This holiday season, the units are collecting funds for the San Francisco Food bank.
